Libyan Gold Tektite is a pale yellow tektite. It formed because of high-pressure damage from a massive meteorite impact on Earth that occurred 30 million years ago in what is today the Sahara Desert. The molten sand crystals transmuted into Libyan Gold Tektite which was scattered across the remote ancient Sand Sea or Great Erg.

The Egyptian pharaoh King Tutankhamun had Libyan Gold Tektite carved into amulets with the most notable example being a scarab beetle found in his burial chamber breastplate.
